I have been facing some difficult situations that pose difficult questions. I have been on a steady path for the last five years. Unfortunately, it was a steady path that now seems to have been in the wrong direction. I won’t beat myself up over it now though. With the help of loved ones and unexpected life events, I woke up from this unconscious tunnel vision that I have had for the last five years. It forced me to ask myself questions. Ones that scare me, ones that I had been avoiding for so long.
Sometimes it’s easier to keep doing something that you know is wrong, instead of making a change for the better. This is because change is uncomfortable. Change is scary. However, in order to improve ourselves and improve our lives, we need to make changes, and this means we need to get uncomfortable. In fact, the more uncomfortable you are with making a change, the greater the change it will be.
So, I decided to wake up and get uncomfortable. I made a change in career paths that I know will improve my life and the lives of everyone around me. This isn’t just about career decisions though. This applies to all areas of life. We become too comfortable with our routines and habits, our morning routine or our favorite TV show that makes us feel all warm and cozy inside. This is a sure fire way to go deep down a path that you may not even be aware of.
It is important to stop and reflect on a regular basis, so that you can make conscious decisions about what you really want. It is then that you can make corrective actions that point you in the right direction.
Although I have failed to do this in the past, I think that journaling is a very powerful tool because it forces you to think, to observe, and reflect. It doesn’t have to be some philosophical exercise. Just the act of writing out our thoughts can be hugely beneficial. This is because it gives us better awareness. With better awareness, we make better choices. And with better choices we create better results.
I hope this sparks some questions in your mind so that you too can make some changes that maybe you have wanted to make for a long time. I wish you the best as you continue your personal journey to fulfillment.
